Answering Calvinism from the Bible is a six hour set of lectures which engages with the Calvinistic concept of predestination from a Scriptural point of view. After examining the Scriptural teaching about the relationship of divine sovereignty and human freedom, Seraphim Hamilton critically examines the three major exegetical “pillars” of Calvinistic teaching on predestination. Reformed scholars and apologists most frequently appeal to three extended passages: Jesus’ teaching in John 6 and 10, St. Paul’s elaboration of Israel’s destiny in Romans 9, and the language Paul uses about predestination in Ephesians 1. It is shown, on Scriptural grounds, that these texts do not teach what Reformed scholars suggest- and that they actually present an alternative vision of divine sovereignty which affirms the necessary cooperation of the human will to attain salvation.
